Greenland weather is classified as Arctic; variations to the weather in Greenland are due to the size of the country. Greenland is a landscape which experiences unforgiving frozen conditions; eighty percent of the region is beneath ice measuring up to four feet thick in places. Hazardous conditions in all parts of the country are due to a combination of low temperatures and blustering winds. Weather condition advice should be followed carefully. Greenland is the setting for meteorological and weather condition research. Ice cores are gathered and studied for the information they hold about what the earth's environment resembled hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Winter
Winter weather in Greenland is harsh and intimidating especially in the centre of the country, with temperatures ranging from -20C to -60C. During this time Greenland is masked in dark, with cold and snowy conditions dominating Greenland weather. On the coastal regions occasionally temperatures will rise above the freezing point, but for the majority of the landscape it remains frozen.

Summer
Greenland weather during summer is relatively mild, particularly in areas which are sheltered from the prevailing winds. Long summer days with abundant sunshine are experienced. Greenland weather in the west coast prides itself for its warmer weather conditions, with average summertime highs remaining above 6C.

Nuuk which is located on the west coast city south of the Arctic Circle, experiences mid-summer temperatures of as high as 10C.

Greenland weather in the east coast is colder than the west coast and enjoys true Arctic weather conditions, temperatures vary greatly, and frozen temperatures during summer take place. Temperatures rise above freezing for brief periods in the summer. Precipitation, mostly in the form of snow, is moderately heavy around the coast. Summer weather in Greenland is fitting for a wide range of outdoor activities.

Green territories characterize the summer scenery of the far south of Greenland. Rain comes to this southern area about every three days.
